About The Artist
Mary Jong is a first generation Chinese Canadian born and raised in the small town of Armstrong/ Spallumcheen, a rich agricultural community in the Okanagan Valley. Market gardening has been in her family's livelihood as she grew up working the rich fertile bottom land. This is where she gets her inspiration. She believes that through art, cultures can better understand themselves and understand others in exchanging and expanding ideas to help bridge concepts, philosophies and values. She explores the medium of acrylics and creates images of her surroundings, interpreting the world around her on canvases. She has been called an Oriental impressionist but would rather be called a dreamer. She would like to think that when you look at her canvases, you have come into her world and whether it inspires you or not, you come away with a bit more insight into her world.
